The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are driving the development agenda through strategies for improved results. Countries in most of Asia and northern Africa are largely on track for the goals; West Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America are progressing on education but less so on poverty; and most of the least developed countries, notably in sub-Saharan Africa, have made little progress in the 1990s. The trend in DAC member countries’ aid volumes is generally upward, reflecting moves to fulfill commitments made at the Conference on Financing for Development in Monterrey in 2002.
